Use felt pads or slides (at least 1” wide) when moving heavy furniture and appliances. Opt for wide, non-staining protectors to support furniture legs and feet. Replace hard plastic factory leg protectors with felt tabs, as their small size can damage your flooring or plank-locking mechanisms over time.

How should I control the temperature and humidity?

Maintain relative humidity between 30%-50% year-round and room temperature between 60-80°F. Using a humidifier may be necessary to keep relative humidity within recommended levels.

When considering installing a floating floor over the original wood flooring, it’s always best to reference your manufacturer’s guidelines. However, this practice is generally not recommended.

Use manufacturer-recommended cleaners to maintain your wood floor. Never clean with water alone or steam cleaners, and avoid using wet/damp mopping techniques, as this can damage your floors and void warranties.

Install felt or rubber pads on all furniture, particularly barstools and kitchen chairs. When moving large appliances like refrigerators, use appliance guides or air sleds rather than pulling them directly across the floor.

Please refer to our hardwood care and maintenance guide for detailed care instructions and warranty protection information.

Sunlight can fade or discolor wood and accelerate aging due to UV exposure, while solar heat can raise floor temperatures to 120°F or more and cause warping. Use window treatments and periodically move rugs and furniture to protect your floors.

Some noise from floors and subfloors is normal. For concerns about excessive noise, please refer to your manufacturer’s warranty or contact your builder directly within the first year of owning your home.

How often should I vacuum?

To keep your carpet clean, vacuum at least once a week. For a more personalized vacuuming schedule based on your needs and lifestyle, check out The Carpet and Rug Institute for helpful guides and recommendations.

For the best vacuum recommendations and guidelines, check out The Carpet and Rug Institute. Please note that the beater-bar vacuum cleaners should not be used on wool carpets, as they can damage the fibers.

Professional cleaning is recommended every 12-18 months. Many manufacturers require this to maintain warranty protection. To find a certified cleaner near you, use the IICRC locator online.

Please refer to your manufacturer’s documentation for specific warranty information about your carpet. If you don’t have your manufacturer’s warranty information, you can request it here.

Prevent premature wear by placing mats near doors to catch dirt and consider a no-shoes policy indoors. Regular vacuuming and professional cleaning every 12-18 months will also help remove dirt before it settles into the carpet fibers.
Carpet, like any fabric, can stretch over time due to various factors. This includes changes in environmental conditions like humidity, regular foot traffic, and improper cleaning techniques, like the use of excessive water.
Seams are necessary for rooms wider than 12 feet, as most carpets are manufactured in 12-foot widths. Like clothing seams, carpet seams may be visible initially but typically become less noticeable over time.

Tack strips are used to secure the carpet along its perimeter. Depending on the carpet’s thickness, strips may be more noticeable around the edges, especially with thinner carpets where padding might not fully cover them.

How should I clean and maintain my LVP floor?

Always follow your manufacturer’s care and maintenance instructions for best results. While LVP is water-resistant, it’s not waterproof, so avoid wet mopping with water or cleaning products, as this can damage planks and void warranties. Never use steam mops or steamers, as the heat can warp planks. Use a dry microfiber dust mop for regular and spot cleaning as needed.

Maintain relative humidity between 30%-50% year-round and the room temperature between 60-80°F. You may need a humidifier to help maintain the recommended humidity levels, especially during the dry seasons.

  • Use felt furniture pads or slides when moving heavy items
  • Install wide-bearing, non-staining protectors (at least 1″ wide) under furniture legs
  • Remove factory plastic chair leg protectors before adding felt tabs
  • Avoid rolling chairs, as wheel pressure can break locking mechanisms
  • Place rugs in high-traffic areas (e.g., kitchen, entryways, sliding doors, etc.)
  • Install boot and shoe catches near entrances during winter weather
  • Keep pet nails trimmed and dry pet paws before they walk on floors
  • Place towels near patio doors for drying pet paws

Direct sunlight can heat floors up to 120° or higher, potentially warping planks. It’s best to close curtains or blinds in areas of extreme sunlight to prevent the warping and fading of your flooring and furnishings.

LVP is a floating floor, so some movement is normal. You may notice:

  • Slight give when stepping on certain areas due to subfloor variations
  • Normal noise from the floor and subfloor movement
  • Squeaks that may resolve with time and seasonal changes

If issues seem excessive, consult your manufacturer’s warranty or contact your builder within the first year of owning your home.

For warranty details, please refer to the manufacturer’s warranty or request the information here. If you have any additional concerns within the first year of owning your home, please contact your builder for further assistance.

How should I clean and maintain my LVT floor?

Always follow the manufacturer’s care guidelines for best results. Avoid wet-mopping or using cleaning products, as they can damage the floors and void the warranties. Never use steam cleaners, as the heat can also warp the tiles.

To keep your floors in optimal condition, maintain a relative humidity level between 30%-50% throughout the year, with room temperatures ranging from 60°F-80°F. You may need a humidifier to maintain the recommended humidity levels.

Direct sunlight can heat floors to 120°F, potentially causing tiles to warp over time. Window treatments, such as blinds or curtains, can help protect your investment by blocking intense sunlight and reducing heat exposure.

LVT is a floating floor, so you may notice:

  • Slight give when stepping on certain areas due to subfloor variations, especially over concrete
  • Normal noise from the floor and subfloor movement
  • Squeaks that may resolve with time and seasonal changes

If floor behavior seems unusual, please consult your manufacturer’s warranty or contact your builder within the first year of owning your home.

How long should I wait after grout repairs?

After grout repairs, it’s important to allow the area to properly set and cure. We recommend waiting at least 72 hours before using the repaired area to ensure the grout has fully hardened and bonded.

While the repaired grout will blend in over time, there may be visible differences between the old and new grout. However, with proper care, the repaired area will continue to settle in and match the surrounding grout more closely.

For best results, we recommend using Aqua Mix Grout Deep Clean. This product is specifically designed to effectively remove dirt, stains, and grime from both tile and grout—ensuring they stay looking fresh and clean.

Sealing isn’t required, but if you choose to seal:

  • Use the recommended sealer: Aqua Mix Grout Sealer
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines for reapplication
  • Plan for periodic maintenance throughout the grout’s lifespan
  • Tile doesn’t need to extend between upper cabinets
  • Metal strips at backsplash-countertop joints help prevent grout cracking at these expansion points

How should I clean sheet vinyl flooring?

For the best care, please refer to your manufacturer for specific care and maintenance guidelines or request them here.

Loose-lay sheet vinyl is a floating floor, so some movement is normal:

  • Loose-lay sheet vinyl isn’t glued to the subfloor, allowing slight movement
  • You may notice softer or firmer areas when walking, especially over concrete, due to subfloor variations
